Brand Identity & Voice Services
Brand Identity & Voice Services
Here's what brand identity services means on this site: identity and voice built as one connected system. An interview about how you talk and what you stand for comes first, recorded and worked from directly. Then a documented style guide and voice guide gives everything else something to draw from, so your site, your social, and your ads finally sound like the same company.

Here, that means a discovery interview first, then a documented voice guide and a visual identity system everything else can draw from. Give me your ZIP and I'll tell you what a first draft would take.

What's included
What Brand Identity Services Actually Include
A logo file lands in your inbox with no instructions for how to use it, and that's supposed to be your brand. It isn't. So here's what I build, in full, as one connected project.

A Real Discovery Interview
You answer straight questions about how you talk and what you stand for, and I work from the recording, as I did for this site's own voice.
A Documented Brand Voice Guide
I write down your tone and vocabulary, then add before-and-after rewrites and a banned-phrase list so the next writer sounds like you on a Tuesday.
A Messaging Framework
I write a small handful of sentences describing what you do and why it matters, worded the same no matter who's asked, without sounding rehearsed.
Naming Direction
I give you guidance on what a product, service, or tagline name should and shouldn't do to fit the identity. Direction only, not a trademark search.
A Visual Identity System
I document a color palette and typography a designer, developer, or you can follow, built fresh or around an existing mark.
Applying the Voice Across What's Already Live
I apply the guide to your existing site copy, social captions, and ad copy already in production, not file it away unused.
A Consistency Check Across What's Already Published
I read back through your live site, social, and ad copy, flagging where the old, undocumented voice still shows through, page by page.
The process
How I Deliver It, and Who It's For
Discovery comes first, and the rest gets built from it.
- The discovery interview runs the same method behind this site's own voice.
- The messaging and voice guide comes from a recorded interview, never a template.
- The visual identity system covers color, type, and a documented style guide.
- I open your homepage first, not a slide deck, and swap out whatever line has sat there since the last redesign.
- One follow-up call happens after your team has used it a while.
A brand-new business with no documented identity yet fits here, and so does an existing business where the logo, the colors, and the copy feel like five different companies made them, usually because they did. So I've walked into a five-person team where three people wrote the same page three different ways in one month. The growth audit that starts this looks at your live pages, social, and logo exactly as they are today.

I play the recording back before writing the messaging.

The plain lines
What Brand Identity Services Do Not Include
A few plain lines, stated up front instead of discovered halfway through a project.
No Logo Artwork Drawn Here
I build the system a logo needs to fit inside: color, typography, the style guide around it. The logo artwork itself is scoped separately with a professional designer.
No Full Rebrand Forced When a Lighter Fix Works
You usually need a documented guide more than a full rebrand.
No Voice Guessed Without the Interview
I won't write your voice guide until we've done the interview.
No Pressure to Change a Logo You Already Like
Your logo stays put when it already works for you.

The first month
What the First Month of This Work Looks Like
Week one is the interview.
- Week one covers the discovery interview and the first draft back to you.
- Week two delivers the full voice guide and the visual identity system.
- Weeks three and four apply the finished guide to your most-visited pages first.
- A logo drawn from scratch never happens in month one, on purpose.
I dig past "we care about our customers" to something true, like a callback within the hour, which becomes your signature phrase. Read how a brand voice guide gets built.
Which one you need
Brand Identity Services vs. Everything Else That Sounds Like It
A few things get confused with this page, and the mix-up costs actual money: paying for the wrong one wastes a budget and repeats work already covered once.
- The personal reading on Understand Who You Are is a different product entirely.
- Website designer work applies this system to a build; it doesn't set the system itself.
- Social media management uses the voice day to day; it doesn't create it.
- A trademark filing or legal clearance never happens on this page.
This is a business marketing deliverable, a documented identity and voice system for a company. So when a site project starts with no brand system behind it yet, I build a light one alongside the build itself, usually just the voice guide and a palette, so nobody ends up paying for a second project they never asked for. A consistent, documented logo and photo presence also matters directly on your Google Business Profile, where customers recognize a business by its logo before they ever click through to a site.

Frequently Asked Questions
These only live on this page. If yours isn't here, ask me below.
What's Included and How It's Built
What's the Difference Between Brand Identity and Brand Voice?
Identity is what a business looks like: color, typography, the visual system. Voice is what it sounds like: tone, vocabulary, what it will and won't say. So brand identity services here cover both as one connected project, and both come from the same discovery interview.
Do You Design My Logo?
If you're expecting a finished logo file, that's not what shows up in your inbox from me. It gets scoped separately with a professional designer. What I build instead is the system that logo has to fit inside, a palette and type scale already chosen, so whoever draws the mark isn't guessing at the rest of it.
How Is This Different From Just Hiring a Logo Designer?
A logo designer draws a mark. This service defines everything the mark has to live inside: the voice, the messaging, the color and type system, and naming direction. A logo someone else draws then fits a documented identity, instead of floating on its own with nothing built around it.
Do I Need a Full Rebrand, or Just a Style Guide for What I Already Have?
Often just a style guide. If your logo and colors are fine but nobody has ever written down the voice or the rules for using them consistently, that's a smaller, less expensive project than a full rebrand. I'll tell you straight which one you need.
What Does a Brand Voice Guide Contain?
It holds your tone and vocabulary. It also has a banned-phrase list and example rewrites the next writer can use, because words like "friendly" tell them nothing.
Do You File Trademarks or Offer Legal Clearance on a Name?
If you need a formal clearance, that's a lawyer's job, not mine. Naming direction here means creative fit with the identity you're building, whether a name sounds like the rest of your voice. A brand-new name still deserves its own trademark search before it goes on a sign.

How It Gets Used and How Long It Takes
Will My Website and Social Media Use the New Brand Guide, or Is It Just a Document?
If you're worried it becomes shelfware, it won't. I use the guide directly on your existing site copy. Where social media management services are already running, I use it on your posts and captions too, so the same voice shows up everywhere.
How Long Does a Brand Identity and Voice Project Take?
It depends on how much already exists versus how much starts from nothing. I'll give you a solid timeline once I've done the discovery interview, not a generic number before I know what you're working with.
Can You Fix an Inconsistent Brand Without Starting Completely Over?
Usually, yes. Most inconsistent brands aren't broken. They're just undocumented, built by whoever touched them last without a guide to follow. So writing down what's working and filling the actual gaps costs less than throwing everything out and starting over.
Do You Provide Naming Direction for a New Product or Tagline?
If a new product or tagline needs a name, I give direction on what it should and shouldn't do to fit the identity. A formal trademark search or legal clearance on a specific name is a separate step, and I'll point you to it.
Is This the Same as the Personal Reading on Understand Who You Are?
If you're thinking of the personal reading, that's a self-discovery product, built for an individual, on a different site, for a different reason. This page is a business marketing deliverable: a documented identity and voice system for a company.
Who This Is for and What Changes Either Way
Do I Need This If I'm Just Starting My Business?
Often, yes, and it's usually easier at this stage than fixing an inconsistent brand five years in. You get to start with one documented voice and system, instead of untangling however many different voices accumulated along the way.
What Happens If I Skip This and Just Keep Writing Content As-Is?
Nothing breaks in one visible moment. Freelancers and new hires each guess at the tone differently since nothing is written down, and a visitor reading a few pages back to back ends up feeling like two different companies wrote them.
Do You Work With an Existing Designer or Agency I Already Use?
Yes. I build the voice guide and visual system to hand off cleanly to your existing designer or agency, so everyone works from the same documented decisions instead of guessing separately.
How Is This Different From Web Design Services?
Web design applies an identity system to a specific site build: the pages, the layout, the code. This page is where that system gets defined in the first place, whether or not a new site is part of the plan right now.

Why Choose Me for This Work
