Internet Marketing Service in Alaska: Under One Plan.

The need is a plan that fits Alaska, and the work spans websites, SEO, video, ads and automation. I'm Caleb Schallert, Houston-based, working the same remote-first way I work everywhere without a local office. An audit first, a plan you can question, and Search Console data every month showing what moved.

Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code

Whether you're in Anchorage or anywhere else in the state, give me your ZIP. I'll show you what results look like for your market.

Alaska's ground is black spruce taiga opening onto a glacier-carved valley, aurora glowing faint and green in the sky. That's what I build around here.

What Working With Me Looks Like

Houston is where I work from, and that holds here too. No local address, no pretending there is one.

  • I read the site before I touch it
  • You question the plan before it ships
  • Something concrete by the first few weeks

You get the same opening month as any client: audit, then plan, then something you can see.

Caleb Schallert, based in Houston, works with clients across the country.

The Market, Sourced

So here's where I start every plan. 740,133 people (U.S. Census Bureau estimate), Alaska's population as of 2024.

  • 740,133 people, 48th by population
  • 22,178 employer businesses, 49th nationally (2023)
  • About 30.0 employer businesses per 1,000 people
  • Largest city: Anchorage, 289,600 people

I'd call that the hardest market to break into (39% of the state's population), since the rivals pile up wherever the searches do.

Alaska's 2 largest metro areas, by population, each its own local search reality:

  • Anchorage: 407,213 people
  • Fairbanks-College: 94,951 people

The state splits across 2 federally defined time zones: Alaska and Hawaii-Aleutian, depending on where in the state you are. That's per 49 CFR Part 71. That means our standing calls land at a time that works for both of us.

The Top Industries

I look at BLS numbers before I look at anything else, and for this state they point to these three sectors.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance: 49,726 jobs, 2024 (and I build the trust page first here, before anything else)
  • Retail Trade: 34,895 jobs, 2024 (and I've seen a wrong holiday hour cost a listing its map-pack spot)
  • Accommodation and Food Services: 30,665 jobs, 2024 (where answering a bad review fast beats collecting five-star ones passively)

Which of these three a business sits in changes the first ninety days more than anything else on this page.

I've rebuilt more than one page that tried answering both searches at once and answered neither. It's why every state page I build carries two full answers.

  • The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
  • Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
  • A search from Anchorage already reads local to Google before I touch anything
  • Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local

An internet marketing search means one thing to a shortlist-builder and another to someone already down to one metro. No guessing which one.

What I Would Do First for an Alaska Business

A quieter market still gets the same three-part shape from me; it just moves through each part faster. Here that means asking Anchorage or Fairbanks-College first, before a single service enters the conversation.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance carries 49,726 jobs statewide as of 2024; I'd prove the credentials out before spending a dollar on anything else
  • Retail Trade carries 34,895 jobs statewide as of 2024; I'd rather fix a wrong hour than write a new page, if I had to pick one first
  • Accommodation and Food Services carries 30,665 jobs statewide as of 2024; the review engine is the first build here, ahead of the star count

The first month builds toward Anchorage directly, since that's usually where the field is thickest. The plan I hand a business depends more on who its customers are and where they're searching from than on anything I could guess before opening the audit and reading what it turns up. That's where I start.

One post gets notched before the others. In Alaska the metro gets named first, the service comes after.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack

I've moved a listing up in Fairbanks-College faster than I've ever managed in Anchorage, purely because fewer businesses were competing for the same spot. I've never planned a build around a single calendar; the state doesn't run on one.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance is the one to watch here; it runs the same in January as it does in July
  • Retail Trade is the one to watch here; it rides the national retail season, sharper near the holidays
  • Accommodation and Food Services is the one to watch here; it moves with travel, without one single tourist season covering the state

The state carries 22,178 employer businesses, and their calendars pull in different directions. Plain and simple.

Internet Marketing Service in Alaska: What an Audit Usually Turns Up

These come from audits on other sites, in other industries. None of them describes your business, and I will not know what yours needs until I have looked.

  • 331 legacy URLs worth 1.58 million impressions over 16 months
  • 15 hidden 404s on the monitor's first read after the fix

1.58 Million Impressions of Search History Behind Old URLs

After a migration, a multi-location franchise's legacy addresses redirected to location homepages or to a 404 page. Its top commercial phrase fell from about 280 impressions a month to 26 over three months. Mapping the old addresses gave 331 legacy URLs. They had earned 1.58 million impressions and 29.2K clicks over 16 months. We wrote five rewrite rules at the host and imported 290 rules at the redirect service. A random sample of 24 URLs all matched. A recovery check was scheduled for about two weeks out. The gain was not yet measured.

Every Missing URL Answered With a Redirect to a Page That Said 200

A residential remodeler's site had no true 404. A nonsense address, an author archive and a short link each returned a 301 to one error page, and that page returned 200. Google counts that as a soft 404. The SEO plugin's 404 monitor stayed empty, so the team thought the site was clean. We switched the plugin's fallback from custom redirection to the default 404 and confirmed a nonsense URL returned a 404 status. On its first read after the change, the monitor held 15 rows that the catch-all had hidden.

Every state I've built a page for lives in the full United States directory. The figures sit next to the rest of the country there, instead of standing alone.

The Five Services

Work here usually draws from these five things. I couldn't tell you which ones you need without seeing the site first.

Quick Answers

Do You Have an Office in Alaska?

I'm based in Houston, Texas, with no Alaska storefront to point to. Every client gets the same remote-first process. When a trip is truly warranted, a launch, a shoot, a leadership meeting, I book it. Otherwise the work runs remote, and I don't pretend it's something else.

How Is Working With Someone Outside Alaska Different From Hiring Locally?

Distance changes the tools, not the standard I hold myself to. A kickoff call and a plan you can question take the place of a desk visit. I still answer my own phone, and I'll tell you straight when something isn't working, the same as if I were sitting across the table from you.

With Alaska This Crowded a Market, What Does Working With Me Here Include?

Working together can pull from five things: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. Which ones your business needs comes out of the audit, and I'd rather undersell it than bundle you into a package.

How Fast Can We Start Working Together If My Business Is in Anchorage?

I reply to a first message within one business day, no phone tag. The kickoff call happens right after we've talked. A written plan comes before anything ships, and you get to push back on it.
