Internet Marketing Service in Michigan: Run From Houston.

The need is a plan that fits Michigan, and the work spans websites, SEO, video, ads and automation. I'm Caleb Schallert, Houston-based, working the same remote-first way I work everywhere without a local office. An audit first, a plan you can question, and Search Console data every month showing what moved.

Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code

In Detroit or anywhere else across the state, your ZIP tells me which market you're competing in. Give it to me and I'll show you what results look like there.

How Remote Work With Me Runs

Houston is where I work from, and that holds here too. No local address, no pretending there is one.

  • First, a plain look at what exists
  • Then a plan open to your questions
  • Then something you can see, fast

That’s the shape I hold to for any business here: nothing hidden, nothing pushed to next quarter.

Caleb Schallert, based in Houston, works with clients across the country.

Here’s what I build for you.

Audit

Build

On a cadence you can see, remote-first

Prove

Dated Search Console numbers, not a feeling

Audit, build, prove: the same three steps in every state.

That order doesn’t bend, at least not for me. Audit, build, prove, and I’ve learned the hard way what skipping one costs.

The Numbers Behind the Market

As of 2024, Michigan counts 10,140,459 people (U.S. Census Bureau estimate). I don't round that up or down for anybody.

  • 10,140,459 people, 10th by population
  • 229,564 employer businesses, 11th nationally (2023)
  • About 22.6 employer businesses per 1,000 people
  • Largest city: Detroit, 645,705 people

That's where the field gets thickest (6% of the state's population). More searches just means more rivals chasing the same ones.

Here are the 5 largest metro areas by population; each carries its own local search reality:

  • Detroit-Warren-Dearborn: 4,400,578 people
  • Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood: 1,178,826 people
  • Lansing-East Lansing: 479,971 people
  • Flint: 402,279 people
  • Ann Arbor: 373,875 people

The state splits across 2 federally defined time zones: Eastern and Central, depending on where in the state you are. That's per 49 CFR Part 71. That means our standing calls land at a time that works for both of us.

What the Workforce Works In

I pulled BLS employment data instead of guessing, and these are the industries the state runs on.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance: 621,590 jobs, 2024 (where a credential page does more work than a location pin)
  • Manufacturing: 600,753 jobs, 2024 (where local intent barely exists; it's mostly buyers doing their homework first)
  • Retail Trade: 451,243 jobs, 2024 (a calendar with sharp seasonal swings, where stale hours cost a click)

A retailer and a clinic never get the same build from me, whatever the state line says.

Google can't tell whether an internet marketing search means the whole state or just Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, so the page has to answer for both.

  • The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
  • Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
  • A search from Detroit-Warren-Dearborn already reads local to Google before I touch anything
  • Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local

Cut the metro pages to save money, and the calls usually start dropping within a month. I build the page to hold both, since guessing wrong loses half the traffic. Simple as that.

What I Would Do First for a Michigan Business

Naming the metro a business competes in comes before naming a single service. Detroit-Warren-Dearborn and Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood are not the same contest.

  • 621,590 people worked in Health Care and Social Assistance here as of 2024. That's why credentials and review volume come before location, so that's where I'd start
  • 600,753 people worked in Manufacturing here as of 2024. That's why I'd skip the map-pack work and build for the buyer running spec comparisons instead
  • 451,243 people worked in Retail Trade here as of 2024. That's why getting the listing right comes before any seasonal push, in my experience

I'd spend the first 30 days on Detroit-Warren-Dearborn's own competitive field, then check Search Console 30 days later for that specific metro. Get the metro wrong in the plan and a slow month follows — I've had to fix that before. The sector decides.

One post gets notched before the others. In Michigan the metro gets named first, the service comes after.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack

I'd rather name the gap between Detroit-Warren-Dearborn and Ann Arbor up front than promise the same pace for both. I plan a build around several calendars at once, not one borrowed from the biggest industry.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance is the one to watch here; it barely moves with the seasons at all
  • Manufacturing is the one to watch here; it keeps a level pace year-round, tied to orders more than weather
  • Retail Trade is the one to watch here; it climbs every holiday season, the same as it does nationwide

Its 229,564 employer businesses sit across industries with sharply different seasonal rhythms. The seasons here don't move together, so a plan built around the busiest industry's calendar quietly starves whichever industry is having its slow month at the exact same time, and most builds never account for that gap. Pace changes by metro.

Internet Marketing Service in Michigan: What an Audit Usually Turns Up

None of this is from your site. It is what audits on other sites turned up, set down so you can see what a first look finds.

  • 22 of 157 redirect destinations returned 404
  • Zero form conversions reported against 1,103 form entries

Twenty-Two Redirect Rules Pointing at Pages That Returned 404

Two audits had passed a personal-injury law firm's redirect table on loops, self-redirects, chains and duplicates. Where the rules sent people went unchecked. We diffed all 157 unique destinations against the 450 canonical URLs in the XML sitemaps, which left 33 candidates, and 22 returned 404. The cause was Spanish pages that moved under /es/ while the table never followed. We repointed all 22, 19 of them to the exact /es/ twin, and the final table held 281 rules with none pointing at a 404.

Green Tracking Settings and No Conversion Tag on the Site

An in-home-care company's ad settings screen showed enhanced conversions checked, customer data terms accepted and a green tag message. The site carried no conversion tag at all. The report counted zero form conversions on 341 website clicks in 30 days, while the form plugin's own list held 1,103 entries across the two live lead forms. The zero was a tracking failure. The tag work went first, and no page was rebuilt. A tag is now confirmed from the page itself, by searching the rendered HTML and the loaded containers.

What an Engagement Can Include

Whether a business needs one of these or all five comes out of the audit, and it is usually not all five.

  • Internet Marketing Service: the SEO, content, and technical work that gets a site found by the people already searching.
  • Website Designer: the site itself: fast, built to convert whatever traffic the SEO work brings in.
  • Video Production Service: video that carries the brand's own voice, not stock-footage filler.
  • Advertising Agency: paid ads to hold the gap open while the organic rankings climb underneath them.
  • Automation Company: lead-routing and follow-up automation so a new lead doesn't go cold waiting on a reply.

One or two first, the rest once those are working. Nobody has yet told me they regretted starting smaller than they planned.

This page sits inside the full United States directory, right alongside the country-level numbers and every other state I've already built a page for.

A single national template can't hold up here, since population, competition, and industry mix all shift by state.

The Five Services

Work here usually draws from these five things. I couldn't tell you which ones you need without seeing the site first.

Quick Answers

Do You Have an Office in Michigan?

No, and I won't pretend otherwise. Houston, Texas is home base, and a client in Michigan gets exactly the process I run everywhere without a physical office. A launch or a shoot gets me on a plane; a status update never does.

How Is Working With Someone Outside Michigan Different From Hiring Locally?

Distance changes the tools, not the standard I hold myself to. A kickoff call and a plan you can question take the place of a desk visit. I still answer my own phone, and I'll tell you straight when something isn't working, the same as if I were sitting across the table from you.

What Does Working With Me in Michigan Include?

Five pieces make up working together: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. Which ones apply is an audit question, and I've been wrong guessing it in advance.

How Fast Can We Start Working Together If My Business Is in Detroit?

A business day is usually all it takes to hear back from me, no phone tag involved. We talk through the business, set the kickoff call, and a written plan follows before anything moves.

Is Detroit the Best Market, or Should I Look at the Whole State?

The largest market is Detroit (645,705 people), and it's usually the hardest to break into. That's where the competition sits, since that's where the customers are. Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood comes in second, with its own local-search reality that deserves its own plan instead of riding on the bigger metro's coattails.

Which Industries in Michigan Benefit Most From This?

By BLS data, the top industries are Health Care and Social Assistance, Manufacturing, and Retail Trade. I usually find the competition thickest there too, since more businesses are fighting for the same searches.
