South Carolina
Internet Marketing Service in South Carolina: One Accountable Map.
Caleb Schallert, based in Houston. South Carolina businesses get the same remote-first process I use everywhere I don't have a local office, across websites, SEO, video, ads and automation. An audit, a plan you can read start to finish, and Search Console data every month that proves it moved.
Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code
Whether you're in Charleston or anywhere else in the state, give me your ZIP. I'll show you what results look like for your market.

What Working With Me Looks Like
Clients here don’t get a local address, because there isn’t one to give them. Houston is where I sit.
- I read the site before I touch it
- You question the plan before it ships
- Something concrete by the first few weeks
A first month with a local business runs on that order: audit, plan, then something ships.

Here’s what I build for you.
Audit
A plain look at what’s live right now
Build
Built remote-first, on a schedule you can track
Prove
Search Console numbers, never a guess
I run the same three steps everywhere. So I’ve watched the shortcut version backfire enough times to stop trying it.
The Market, Sourced
As of 2024, South Carolina counts 5,478,831 people (U.S. Census Bureau estimate). I don't round that up or down for anybody.
- 5,478,831 people, 23rd by population
- 122,958 employer businesses, 23rd nationally (2023)
- About 22.4 employer businesses per 1,000 people
- Largest city: Charleston, 157,665 people
That's usually the state's toughest market to rank in (3% of the state's population). Most of the searches live there, and so do most of the rivals.
By population there are 3 metro areas, and each one is its own local search reality:
- Greenville-Anderson-Greer: 996,680 people
- Columbia: 870,193 people
- Charleston-North Charleston: 869,940 people
Cross-border metros South Carolina businesses also compete in: Charlotte, NC (2,883,370) and Augusta, GA (636,760).
The state runs on Eastern time, 1 hour ahead of Houston's Central time, per 49 CFR Part 71. I've never made a client adjust to Houston hours; the standing call moves to fit them.
What the Workforce Works In
BLS employment data names the same answer every time I check: these three sectors carry the state's workforce.
- Retail Trade: 267,783 jobs, 2024 (and the map pack rewards whoever keeps hours and inventory current)
- Manufacturing: 263,741 jobs, 2024 (where the search is almost entirely B2B, spec sheets over a map pack)
- Accommodation and Food Services: 245,086 jobs, 2024 (I've watched a business out-rank a nicer competitor purely by replying faster)
I have never reused one sector's playbook on another and gotten away with it.
Metro Search vs. Statewide Search
An internet marketing search gets typed by two very different people, and the page answers to both.
- The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
- Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
- A search from Greenville-Anderson-Greer already reads local to Google before I touch anything
- Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local
- Mobile search leans local by default; desktop leans toward research
I'd rather cover both than bet wrong on which one typed it. Build a page for the statewide search alone and it misses half the demand sitting one click from a single metro. Two searches, one page. Neither is optional.
What I Would Do First for a South Carolina Business
Before I recommend anything, I need to know which metro a business sells into. Greenville-Anderson-Greer and Columbia run in two entirely separate competitive fields.
- 267,783 people worked in Retail Trade here as of 2024. That's why accurate hours and current inventory move the map pack more than anything else
- 263,741 people worked in Manufacturing here as of 2024. That's why I've found spec sheets close more deals here than a map listing ever could
- 245,086 people worked in Accommodation and Food Services here as of 2024. That's why responding matters more than the star average, so I'd start there
The first month builds toward Greenville-Anderson-Greer directly, since that's usually where the field is thickest. I've opened plans for two different metros in the same month and watched them share zero competitors. The sector decides.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack
I plan a build around several calendars at once, not one borrowed from the biggest industry. 122,958 employer businesses call the state home, spread across industries that don't share a rhythm.
- Retail Trade climbs every holiday season, the same as it does nationwide
- Manufacturing keeps a level pace year-round, tied to orders more than weather
- Accommodation and Food Services climbs when travel does, and quiets down right after
I'd rather name the gap between Greenville-Anderson-Greer and Charleston-North Charleston up front than promise the same pace for both. Smaller fields move faster.
Internet Marketing Service in South Carolina: What an Audit Usually Turns Up
Two findings follow, each from an audit on someone else's site. They show the work and say nothing about your site until it has been looked at.
- Click-through rate of 1.01 percent against 0.09 percent site-wide
- 66 business names across 118 pages, 65 of them wrong
Eighty-Three Thin Pages the Rules Said to Delete
The usual rule says to delete thin pages, and it would have removed 83 short case-result pages from a personal-injury law firm's site. The median ran 253 words and 71 of the 83 sat under 300. Yet their click-through rate was 1.01 percent against 0.09 percent across the site. That is about eleven times higher. A single page with a settlement figure in its title took 16 clicks from 584 impressions. The recommendation was to keep every one and link them from the matching service pages, because a concrete result in a title is what people comparing firms click.
Sixty-Six Business Names at One Address
Page after page of a home-care company's site carried a second LocalBusiness node in its structured data, named from the page title. That came to 125 nodes on 118 pages. There were 66 distinct names, and 65 of them were wrong. The wrong names read Home, Contact and the city name, each paired with the same address, phone and coordinates. None of the 45 posts, 11 testimonials or 2 categories had it. That put the source in a page template. A misspelt telePhone key beside the plugin's correct output gave a unique string to search for.
What's on the Table
Whether a business needs one of these or all five comes out of the audit, and it is usually not all five.
- Internet Marketing Service: the groundwork search runs on: SEO, content, and the technical fixes that get a site found.
- Website Designer: a clean, fast build that converts the traffic the SEO work is already sending it.
- Video Production Service: video that carries the brand's own voice, not stock-footage filler.
- Advertising Agency: paid ads to hold the gap open while the organic rankings climb underneath them.
- Automation Company: the follow-up and lead-routing work that keeps a new lead from going cold.
One or two first, the rest once those are working. Nobody has yet told me they regretted starting smaller than they planned.
The full United States directory holds every state page I've built, this one among them, next to the country-level numbers.
Population, competition, and industry mix all move by state, which is why this isn't one generic national page.
The Five Services
These five things cover most of what a business ends up needing. I've had clients start on one and grow into three.

Quick Answers
Do You Have an Office in South Carolina?
No, and I won't pretend otherwise. Houston, Texas is home base, and a client in South Carolina gets exactly the process I run everywhere without a physical office. A launch or a shoot gets me on a plane; a status update never does.
How Is Working With Someone Outside South Carolina Different From Hiring Locally?
It's mostly a question of tools. A kickoff call and a written plan cover what a desk visit used to. I've flagged a dropping number to a client before they'd even opened that month's report themselves.
What Does Working With Me in South Carolina Include?
Working together draws from five things: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. I size that to the audit's findings, never to a fixed tier.
How Fast Can We Start Working Together If My Business Is in Charleston?
Reach out and I reply within one business day, no phone tag. We'll talk through the business, then set a kickoff call. A written plan follows that you can push back on before anything ships.
Is Charleston the Best Market, or Should I Look at the Whole State?
Charleston (157,665 people) is the state's largest market, usually the hardest one to rank in. I put the most work where the most customers already are. I'd still build Columbia its own plan; it's a separate local-search reality, not an afterthought bolted onto the bigger metro's strategy.
Does South Carolina's Retail Trade Economy Need a Different Plan Than Most States?
It does. Most of the states I've built pages for run on health care first; this one's own BLS numbers put Retail Trade on top instead, and I build the plan to that, not to what most states look like.
