Internet Marketing Service in Iowa: From One Person.

Need internet marketing in Iowa? Caleb Schallert here, based in Houston. Websites, SEO, video, ads and automation, all from one person, the same remote-first way I work everywhere I don't have a local office. It starts with an audit and a plan you can question; Search Console data every month shows what moved.

Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code

In Des Moines or anywhere else across the state, your ZIP tells me which market you're competing in. Give it to me and I'll show you what results look like there.

Iowa's ground is rows of corn catching golden-hour light. I plant it right and let it grow, same as everywhere else.

What Working With Me Looks Like

I’ve never opened an office in the state, and I say so upfront instead of pretending otherwise.

  • I check what’s live first, always
  • You get a plan before anything moves
  • Visible progress by the first few weeks

There is no shortcut version of month one. Audit, plan, then work you can see.

The Market, by the Numbers

Iowa's population comes in at 3,241,488 people, 2024 (U.S. Census Bureau estimate), the market a local business is up against.

  • 3,241,488 people, 32nd by population
  • 83,321 employer businesses, 31st nationally (2023)
  • About 25.7 employer businesses per 1,000 people
  • Largest city: Des Moines, 213,096 people

I'd call that the hardest market to break into (7% of the state's population), since the rivals pile up wherever the searches do.

Iowa's 4 largest metro areas, by population, each its own local search reality:

  • Des Moines-West Des Moines: 753,913 people
  • Davenport-Moline-Rock Island: 381,801 people
  • Cedar Rapids: 278,677 people
  • Iowa City: 182,711 people

The cross-border metro Iowa businesses also compete in: Omaha, NE (1,001,010).

The state runs on Central time, the same clock I'm on in Houston. Scheduling a call is exactly as easy as it would be with someone local. I build the standing call around it, so it lands at a workable time on both ends.

Industries the Workforce Runs On

I look at BLS numbers before I look at anything else, and for this state they point to these three sectors.

  • Manufacturing: 222,310 jobs, 2024 (where local intent barely exists; it's mostly buyers doing their homework first)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance: 193,253 jobs, 2024 (and I build the trust page first here, before anything else)
  • Retail Trade: 173,576 jobs, 2024 (and the map pack here punishes stale listings faster than almost any other field)

Which of these three a business sits in changes the first ninety days more than anything else on this page.

I built a page once for the statewide search alone, and watched it miss half the demand sitting one click from a single metro. So the page ends up answering two searches at once, on purpose.

  • The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
  • Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
  • A search from Des Moines-West Des Moines already reads local to Google before I touch anything
  • Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local

A search for internet marketing covers both a statewide comparison and a single-metro decision. One page, two jobs.

What I Would Do First for an Iowa Business

Two businesses a mile apart can still need completely different plans, once the sector splits them.

  • By 2024, Manufacturing had grown to 222,310 jobs statewide, and I'd skip the map-pack work and build for the buyer running spec comparisons instead
  • By 2024, Health Care and Social Assistance had grown to 193,253 jobs statewide, and I'd get the credentials page right before I'd touch anything else here
  • By 2024, Retail Trade had grown to 173,576 jobs statewide, and I'd fix the listing accuracy before touching anything seasonal

Thirty to sixty days go into Des Moines-West Des Moines's field specifically; sixty to ninety are proof, not a statewide guess. Fewer businesses competing for the same terms usually means the audit turns up a shorter, sharper list of fixes. The audit tells me more about which of these moves matters first than any assumption I'd bring in on day one, and I've been wrong often enough guessing ahead of it that I no longer bother trying. Simple rule, solid results.

Only one row gets lit at a time. In Iowa that light falls on a metro before it falls on a service.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack

The state's toughest field sits in Des Moines-West Des Moines; its easiest sits in Iowa City, and I size the proof timeline to whichever one the plan is built for. I've never planned a build around a single calendar; the state doesn't run on one.

  • Manufacturing is the one to watch here; it keeps a level pace year-round, tied to orders more than weather
  • Health Care and Social Assistance is the one to watch here; it runs the same in January as it does in July
  • Retail Trade is the one to watch here; it swings hard around the holidays, same as the rest of the country

I count 83,321 employer businesses here, and they don't all move on the same clock. Plain and simple.

Internet Marketing Service in Iowa: What an Audit Usually Turns Up

Here are two problems that audits on other sites turned up, with the numbers from each. Whether your site has either one is something only an audit can say.

  • Homepage weight: 32 MB down to 5.7 MB, a cut of 82 percent
  • Eighteen pages: 442,766 impressions and 51 clicks

A Homepage That Downloaded 32 MB Before Anyone Scrolled

A children's apparel store's homepage weighed 32 MB on first view. The new slider had loaded five videos on arrival. The metadata-only tag should have been cheap. Yet MP4 files on that platform have to be mostly read to reach the metadata. Now a video downloads nothing until it is on screen, and a poster stands in. The page fell from 32 MB to 5.7 MB, down 82 percent, and the four off-screen slides sat at zero bytes. The hero image shrank as well. It had been a 1.36 MB PNG and is now a 146 KB progressive JPEG.

Eighteen City Pages Took 53 Percent of the Impressions

Joining a personal-injury law firm's crawl to three months of Search Console data showed where the impressions went. Eighteen geo pages held 442,766 impressions, 53 percent of everything the site earned. They returned 51 clicks. Paginated archives added 21 indexed URLs with 282 impressions and no clicks, and Google reported 166 pages as discovered or crawled but not indexed. The archives and both category layers went to noindex with follow, which keeps link equity moving. Nothing was deleted. The city pages went to the top of the rewrite list.

Quick Answers

Do You Have an Office in Iowa?

No, and I won't pretend otherwise. Houston, Texas is home base, and a client in Iowa gets exactly the process I run everywhere without a physical office. A launch or a shoot gets me on a plane; a status update never does.

How Is Working With Someone Outside Iowa Different From Hiring Locally?

What's different is logistics, not effort. A kickoff call up front and a written plan you can push back on replace a local shop's desk visits. I've caught a slipping number in a monthly report before a client ever asked about it. One person carries the account, not a rotating team.

With Iowa This Crowded a Market, What Does Working With Me Here Include?

Five things sit inside working together: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. I've turned down selling all five to a business that only needed two of them, and I'd do it again.

How Fast Can We Start Working Together If My Business Is in Des Moines?

A business day is usually all it takes to hear back from me, no phone tag involved. We talk through the business, set the kickoff call, and a written plan follows before anything moves.
