Internet Marketing Service in Massachusetts: Under One Plan.

The need is a plan that fits Massachusetts, and the work spans websites, SEO, video, ads and automation. I'm Caleb Schallert, Houston-based, working the same remote-first way I work everywhere without a local office. An audit first, a plan you can question, and Search Console data every month showing what moved.

Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code

In Boston or anywhere else across the state, your ZIP tells me which market you're competing in. Give it to me and I'll show you what results look like there.

What Working With Me Looks Like

I’ve never opened an office in the state, and I say so upfront instead of pretending otherwise.

  • I read the site before I touch it
  • You question the plan before it ships
  • Something concrete by the first few weeks

For a business like yours, the first month always looks like that. I’ve never shortened it.

Caleb Schallert, based in Houston, works with clients across the country.

The Market, Sourced

I start with the plain number here. 7,136,171 people live in Massachusetts as of 2024 (U.S. Census Bureau estimate).

  • 7,136,171 people, 16th by population
  • 183,767 employer businesses, 14th nationally (2023)
  • About 25.8 employer businesses per 1,000 people
  • Largest city: Boston, 673,458 people

Search volume and competition both peak right there (9% of the state's population), the single toughest spot in the state.

Massachusetts's 4 largest metro areas, by population, each its own local search reality:

  • Boston-Cambridge-Newton: 5,025,517 people
  • Worcester: 881,248 people
  • Springfield: 464,151 people
  • Barnstable Town: 232,570 people

The cross-border metro Massachusetts businesses also compete in: Providence, RI (1,700,901).

The state runs on Eastern time, 1 hour ahead of Houston's Central time, per 49 CFR Part 71. That gap is small enough that it's never once cost us a meeting.

The Top Industries

These three sectors carry more of the workforce than anything else, per the BLS's own count, not my guess.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance: 648,228 jobs, 2024 (I've seen a well-sourced credentials page outrank a closer competitor's plain listing)
  • Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services: 371,502 jobs, 2024 (and I've watched a thin bio lose out to a solid credential more than once)
  • Retail Trade: 327,260 jobs, 2024 (where the season moves the search volume, and accuracy still wins the map pack)

Two businesses on the same street can need different builds. What they sell splits them.

The person who already knows Boston-Cambridge-Newton searches nothing like the person still comparing the whole state.

  • The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
  • Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
  • A search from Boston-Cambridge-Newton already reads local to Google before I touch anything
  • Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local

I've had two inquiries land the same afternoon, one asking about the whole state and one asking only about their block. One page trying to serve both usually shortchanges each. Both readers matter.

What I Would Do First for a Massachusetts Business

Naming Boston-Cambridge-Newton or Worcester comes before anything else in a plan.

  • I'd build the credentials and reviews first here; location comes second, since Health Care and Social Assistance alone accounts for 648,228 jobs here in 2024
  • Authority beats a polished page here, so I'd prove it first, since Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services alone accounts for 371,502 jobs here in 2024
  • Getting the listing right comes before any seasonal push, in my experience, since Retail Trade alone accounts for 327,260 jobs here in 2024

I've built for markets ten times Boston-Cambridge-Newton's size, and the process stays the same; only the pace changes. Thirty to sixty days go into Boston-Cambridge-Newton's field specifically; sixty to ninety are proof, not a statewide guess. Simple rule, solid results.

The stake goes into the row that's already growing. In Massachusetts that means naming the metro before naming the service.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack

I plan a build around whichever industry's calendar is quietest right now. That's across 183,767 employer businesses statewide, each running its own seasonal pattern.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance is one of three here, and it barely moves with the seasons at all
  • Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services is one of three here, and it runs research-driven, without a sharp season
  • Retail Trade is one of three here, and it moves with the national shopping calendar, busiest late in the year

I judge the state's timeline against Boston-Cambridge-Newton and Barnstable Town separately, since a build that clears Barnstable Town in weeks can take months in Boston-Cambridge-Newton. I've judged a build against the wrong metro before and watched the timeline slip by a full month before anyone caught it, which is why I check the metro-specific numbers now before I promise a single date. Smaller fields move faster.

Internet Marketing Service in Massachusetts: What an Audit Usually Turns Up

These come from audits on other sites, in other industries. None of them describes your business, and I will not know what yours needs until I have looked.

  • 15 hidden 404s on the monitor's first read after the fix
  • 22 of 157 redirect destinations returned 404

Every Missing URL Answered With a Redirect to a Page That Said 200

A residential remodeler's site had no true 404. A nonsense address, an author archive and a short link each returned a 301 to one error page, and that page returned 200. Google reads that as a soft 404, and the SEO plugin's 404 monitor showed nothing, so the team believed there were no broken links. The plugin's fallback changed from custom redirection to the default 404, and a nonsense URL then returned a 404 status. On its first read after the change, the monitor held 15 rows that the catch-all had hidden.

Twenty-Two Redirect Rules Pointing at Pages That Returned 404

Two audits had passed a personal-injury law firm's redirect table on loops, self-redirects, chains and duplicates. Nobody had checked where the rules pointed. We diffed all 157 unique destinations against the 450 canonical URLs in the XML sitemaps, which left 33 candidates, and 22 returned 404. The cause was Spanish pages that moved under /es/ while the table never followed. All 22 were repointed, 19 to the matching /es/ page, leaving 281 rules and none ending at a 404.

Every state I've built a page for lives in the full United States directory. The figures sit next to the rest of the country there, instead of standing alone.

The Five Services

These five things cover most of what a business ends up needing. I've had clients start on one and grow into three.

Quick Answers

Do You Have an Office in Massachusetts?

No, and I won't pretend otherwise. Houston, Texas is home base, and a client in Massachusetts gets exactly the process I run everywhere without a physical office. A launch or a shoot gets me on a plane; a status update never does.

How Is Working With Someone Outside Massachusetts Different From Hiring Locally?

The logistics change; the standard doesn't. A kickoff call replaces the desk visit, and a monthly report built on Search Console data replaces the drop-in. I've told a client bad news before they asked for it.

With Massachusetts This Crowded a Market, What Does Working With Me Here Include?

Five things sit inside working together: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. I've turned down selling all five to a business that only needed two of them, and I'd do it again.

How Fast Can We Start Working Together If My Business Is in Boston?

A business day is usually all it takes to hear back from me, no phone tag involved. We talk through the business, set the kickoff call, and a written plan follows before anything moves.
