Internet Marketing Service in Utah: Run From Houston.

I'm Caleb Schallert, based in Houston, and I run internet marketing for businesses in Utah the same remote-first way I run it everywhere I don't have a local office: websites, SEO, video, ads and automation, one person across all of it. An audit first, a plan you can see, and Search Console data every month proving it moved.

Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code

In Salt Lake City or anywhere else across the state, your ZIP tells me which market you're competing in. Give it to me and I'll show you what results look like there.

Utah grows a red-rock desert arch below a high alpine peak dusted with snow. I build the site to match that ground.

Working With Me From Houston

No office in the state. I’m in Houston, and I run clients here the way I run anyone I can’t just drive to.

  • Start with what’s already there
  • A plan you’re allowed to argue with
  • Movement inside the first few weeks, not months

Month one follows that order every time, no exceptions. Nothing turns into a black box.

Caleb Schallert, based in Houston, works with clients across the country.

Here’s what I build for you.

Audit

Everything live gets read before anything changes

Build

Built on a schedule you can follow along with

Prove

Numbers from Search Console, dated and checkable

Audit, build, prove: the same three steps in every state.

There is no shortcut version of this. Audit, build, prove, because I’ve seen what happens when a step gets skipped.

The Market, Sourced

So here's where I start every plan. 3,503,613 people (U.S. Census Bureau estimate), Utah's population as of 2024.

  • 3,503,613 people, 30th by population
  • 95,494 employer businesses, 28th nationally (2023)
  • About 27.3 employer businesses per 1,000 people
  • Largest city: Salt Lake City, 217,783 people

Search volume and competition both peak right there (6% of the state's population), the single toughest spot in the state.

5 metro areas make up the largest markets by population, each with its own local search reality:

  • Salt Lake City-Murray: 1,300,762 people
  • Provo-Orem-Lehi: 760,531 people
  • Ogden: 667,681 people
  • St. George: 207,943 people
  • Logan: 161,125 people

The state runs on Mountain time, 1 hour behind Houston's Central time, per 49 CFR Part 71. I build the standing call around it, so it lands at a workable time on both ends.

Industries the Workforce Runs On

I look at BLS numbers before I look at anything else, and for this state they point to these three sectors.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance: 185,503 jobs, 2024 (where a credential page does more work than a location pin)
  • Retail Trade: 179,051 jobs, 2024 (where the season moves the search volume, and accuracy still wins the map pack)
  • Manufacturing: 152,131 jobs, 2024 (where the buyer is comparing documents, not driving distance)

I size the plan to the sector. That has cost me time when I guessed it early and skipped the audit.

Type internet marketing company and Google can't tell if you mean the whole state or Salt Lake City-Murray specifically.

  • The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
  • Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
  • A search from Salt Lake City-Murray already reads local to Google before I touch anything
  • Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local
  • Mobile search leans local by default; desktop leans toward research

Guessing which reader showed up costs more than just writing for both. I've had two inquiries land the same afternoon, one asking about the whole state and one asking only about their block. Two people can type nearly the same words into Google and mean completely different things by them, and building for only one of those two readers is how half a market quietly disappears. Simple as that.

What I Would Do First for a Utah Business

Two businesses a mile apart can still need completely different plans, once the sector splits them.

  • By 2024, Health Care and Social Assistance had grown to 185,503 jobs statewide, and I'd prove the credentials out before spending a dollar on anything else
  • By 2024, Retail Trade had grown to 179,051 jobs statewide, and accurate hours and current inventory move the map pack more than anything else
  • By 2024, Manufacturing had grown to 152,131 jobs statewide, and I'd write for the buyer doing research, since a map pack barely reaches them

The build gets sized to whichever metro the business competes in, Salt Lake City-Murray included. A quieter market still gets the same three-part shape from me; it just moves through each part faster. The sector decides.

One tag, one row, first. In Utah the tag reads a metro's name before it reads a service.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack

One calendar doesn't fit the state, at least not once you look past the first industry.

  • Watch Health Care and Social Assistance closely; it doesn't swing with the seasons the way retail does
  • Watch Retail Trade closely; it tracks the national retail calendar, thicker competition around the holidays
  • Watch Manufacturing closely; it holds steady output, with barely any seasonal swing

I judge the state's timeline against Salt Lake City-Murray and Logan separately, since a build that clears Logan in weeks can take months in Salt Lake City-Murray. With 95,494 employer businesses statewide, no single season covers all of them. Plain and simple.

Internet Marketing Service in Utah: What an Audit Usually Turns Up

None of this is from your site. It is what audits on other sites turned up, set down so you can see what a first look finds.

  • One of three origins was dead; five of five requests then returned 200
  • Homepage weight: 32 MB down to 5.7 MB, a cut of 82 percent

One of Three Origins Behind the Firewall Was a Dead Server

After a host migration, a residential remodeler's firewall still listed the old host's address beside the two live ones. That firewall rotates uncached requests across all of its addresses, which meant some visits could land on a dead server. Two answered 200 with the live site and one answered 404, a likely source of the intermittent errors nobody could reproduce in a browser. We removed the dead address and cleared the cache. After that, five uncached requests returned 200 five times, and audits behind a firewall now test every origin directly.

A Homepage That Downloaded 32 MB Before Anyone Scrolled

A children's apparel store's new homepage pulled in 32 MB on first view, because a five-video slider started loading before anyone scrolled. Each video was tagged to load only its metadata, but videos hosted on that platform need most of the file read to get it. We set the videos to load nothing until visible, with a poster in place. Page weight dropped to 5.7 MB, an 82 percent cut. The other four slides sat at zero bytes. The hero image shrank as well. It had been a 1.36 MB PNG and is now a 146 KB progressive JPEG.

The Scope of an Engagement

I rarely sell all five to one business at once, and the audit is what decides which apply.

  • Internet Marketing Service: the SEO, content, and technical work that gets a site found by the people already searching.
  • Website Designer: a site built fast and clean enough to convert the traffic the SEO work already sends it.
  • Video Production Service: video that sounds like the business itself, not a generic stock reel.
  • Advertising Agency: ads that buy time for the organic rankings still building underneath them.
  • Automation Company: the layer that catches a new lead and follows up before it goes cold.

I would rather start with one or two and prove them out. I have watched a business buy all five up front and use two of them.

Every state I've built a page for lives in the full United States directory. The figures sit next to the rest of the country there, instead of standing alone.

'The market' changes by which state a business competes in, so each state page here runs on its own numbers, not a template.

The Five Services

Work here usually draws from these five things. I couldn't tell you which ones you need without seeing the site first.

Quick Answers

Do You Have an Office in Utah?

I'm based in Houston, Texas, with no Utah storefront to point to. Every client gets the same remote-first process. When a trip is truly warranted, a launch, a shoot, a leadership meeting, I book it. Otherwise the work runs remote, and I don't pretend it's something else.

How Is Working With Someone Outside Utah Different From Hiring Locally?

The logistics change; the standard doesn't. A kickoff call replaces the desk visit, and a monthly report built on Search Console data replaces the drop-in. I've told a client bad news before they asked for it.

With Utah This Crowded a Market, What Does Working With Me Here Include?

Working together can pull from five things: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. Which ones your business needs comes out of the audit, and I'd rather undersell it than bundle you into a package.

How Fast Can We Start Working Together If My Business Is in Salt Lake City?

You'll hear back within a business day, and I mean from me, not an assistant. The kickoff call comes next, then a written plan you get to push back on before anything ships.

Is Salt Lake City the Best Market, or Should I Look at the Whole State?

Salt Lake City (217,783 people) is the state's largest market, usually the hardest one to rank in. I put the most work where the most customers already are. I'd still build Provo-Orem-Lehi its own plan; it's a separate local-search reality, not an afterthought bolted onto the bigger metro's strategy.

Which Industries in Utah Benefit Most From This?

The top industries, per BLS data, are Health Care and Social Assistance, Retail Trade, and Manufacturing. Those are also where I see the competition run thickest, the most businesses chasing the same searches.
