Virginia
Internet Marketing Service in Virginia: Built to Convert.
I'm Caleb Schallert, based in Houston, and Virginia businesses come here for internet marketing that covers all of it: websites, SEO, video, ads and automation. Same remote-first way of working as anywhere I don't keep a local office: an audit, a plan you get to see, and Search Console data every month, proof included.
Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code
The state runs on local markets, from Virginia Beach out. Give me your ZIP, and I'll tell you straight what results look like for your specific one.

Working With Me From Houston
You don’t get a local rep, since I don’t have one to send. I run this from Houston, same as everywhere else.
- I check what’s live first, always
- You get a plan before anything moves
- Visible progress by the first few weeks
For a business like yours, the first month always looks like that. I’ve never shortened it.

Here’s what I build for you.
Audit
A first pass over what already exists
Build
A remote-first build, paced on a schedule you track
Prove
Search Console data, month over month
Every client gets the same three steps as everywhere I work. But I’d rather hand you a number than tell you it’s going well.
The Market, by the Numbers
So here's where I start every plan. 8,811,195 people (U.S. Census Bureau estimate), Virginia's population as of 2024.
- 8,811,195 people, 12th by population
- 210,842 employer businesses, 12th nationally (2023)
- About 23.9 employer businesses per 1,000 people
- Largest city: Virginia Beach, 454,808 people
Search volume and competition both peak right there (5% of the state's population), the single toughest spot in the state.
Virginia's 3 largest metro areas, by population, each its own local search reality:
- Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk: 1,794,278 people
- Richmond: 1,370,165 people
- Roanoke: 315,749 people
Cross-border metros Virginia businesses also compete in: Washington, DC (6,436,489) and Kingsport, TN (313,876).
The state runs on Eastern time, 1 hour ahead of Houston's Central time, per 49 CFR Part 71. I've never made a client adjust to Houston hours; the standing call moves to fit them.
The Top Industries
BLS employment data names the same answer every time I check: these three sectors carry the state's workforce.
- Health Care and Social Assistance: 498,470 jobs, 2024 (where the review count matters about as much as the address does)
- Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services: 470,378 jobs, 2024 (and I've watched a thin bio lose out to a solid credential more than once)
- Retail Trade: 392,040 jobs, 2024 (I've fixed a wrong closing time and watched the calls start the same week)
Which of these three a business sits in changes the first ninety days more than anything else on this page.
Metro Search vs. Statewide Search
The person who already knows Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk searches nothing like the person still comparing the whole state.
- The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
- Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
- A search from Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk already reads local to Google before I touch anything
- Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local
I've had two inquiries land the same afternoon, one asking about the whole state and one asking only about their block. A single page rarely serves both readers well. Both readers matter.
What I Would Do First for a Virginia Business
I've never built the same plan twice for two different metros, even in the same state. Here that means asking Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk or Richmond first, before a single service enters the conversation.
- Health Care and Social Assistance carries 498,470 jobs statewide as of 2024; a worried searcher checks credentials before a map, so that's where I'd open the build
- Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services carries 470,378 jobs statewide as of 2024; authority beats a polished page here, so I'd prove it first
- Retail Trade carries 392,040 jobs statewide as of 2024; I'd rather fix a wrong hour than write a new page, if I had to pick one first
Days 30 to 60 build the Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk-specific plan; a smaller metro can probably win faster on a thinner field. I've built two plans for two businesses selling nearly identical services, and the only thing they ended up sharing was the reporting cadence, because the metros underneath them behaved nothing alike. The audit settles it.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack
I size a build to the quietest calendar first, then work toward the busiest. I count 210,842 employer businesses here, and they don't all move on the same clock.
- Health Care and Social Assistance is one of three here, and it runs the flattest calendar of the three, steady demand year-round
- Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services is one of three here, and it runs research-driven, without a sharp season
- Retail Trade is one of three here, and it tracks the national retail calendar, thicker competition around the holidays
I judge the state's timeline against Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk and Roanoke separately, since a build that clears Roanoke in weeks can take months in Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk. The calendar decides pace.
Internet Marketing Service in Virginia: What an Audit Usually Turns Up
Two findings follow, each from an audit on someone else's site. They show the work and say nothing about your site until it has been looked at.
- 66 business names across 118 pages, 65 of them wrong
- On-page score from 20 to 73 on a keyword change alone
Sixty-Six Business Names at One Address
Page after page of a home-care company's site carried a second LocalBusiness node in its structured data, named from the page title. That came to 125 nodes on 118 pages. There were 66 distinct names, and 65 of them were wrong. The names read Home, Contact and the city name, all with the same address, phone and coordinates. The defect sat on pages. None of the 45 posts, 11 testimonials or 2 categories had it, so it was scoped to a page template. A misspelt telePhone key next to the plugin's correct output was a string we could search for.
A 4,100-A-Month Keyword That Belonged to a Government Program
A home-care company's service page had been assigned a keyword with 4,100 searches a month, chosen on volume alone. The terms around that keyword belonged to a national benefit program, with its acronym and state versions. A private company cannot win it. It would not convert the traffic if it did. The page's own title, URL and H1 already matched a 2,300-a-month phrase, and switching to it moved the page's on-page score from 20 to 73 on the keyword change alone. We now read a keyword's ten nearest neighbors before committing to it.
What an Engagement Can Include
I rarely sell all five to one business at once, and the audit is what decides which apply.
- Internet Marketing Service: the SEO, content, and technical work that gets a site found by the people already searching.
- Website Designer: the site itself: fast, built to convert whatever traffic the SEO work brings in.
- Video Production Service: video in the brand's own voice, not another stock-footage reel.
- Advertising Agency: paid spend that holds the line while the organic rankings climb underneath it.
- Automation Company: automated routing and follow-up, so a fresh lead never sits waiting on a reply.
I would rather start with one or two and prove them out. I have watched a business buy all five up front and use two of them.
This one page is a single entry in the full United States directory, with the country-level numbers alongside it.
A single national template can't hold up here, since population, competition, and industry mix all shift by state.
The Five Services
These five things cover most of what a business ends up needing. I've had clients start on one and grow into three.

Quick Answers
Do You Have an Office in Virginia?
There's no Virginia office to visit. I run this from Houston, Texas, and I'd rather say that outright than dress up a remote setup as something it isn't. A launch, a shoot, a leadership meeting, still gets me on a flight.
How Is Working With Someone Outside Virginia Different From Hiring Locally?
What's different is logistics, not effort. A kickoff call up front and a written plan you can push back on replace a local shop's desk visits. I've caught a slipping number in a monthly report before a client ever asked about it. One person carries the account, not a rotating team.
What Does Working With Me in Virginia Include?
Working together can pull from five things: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. Which ones your business needs comes out of the audit, and I'd rather undersell it than bundle you into a package.
How Fast Can We Start Working Together If My Business Is in Virginia Beach?
I reply within a business day of your first message, no phone tag. Once we've talked through the business, the kickoff call comes next. A written plan you can question comes before anything ships.
Is Virginia Beach the Best Market, or Should I Look at the Whole State?
Virginia Beach (454,808 people) is the state's largest market, usually the hardest one to rank in. I put the most work where the most customers already are. I'd still build Richmond its own plan; it's a separate local-search reality, not an afterthought bolted onto the bigger metro's strategy.
Which Industries in Virginia Benefit Most From This?
Per BLS data: Health Care and Social Assistance, Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services, and Retail Trade lead employment. In my experience that's usually where the field gets most crowded too, more businesses fighting for the same handful of searches.
