West Virginia
Internet Marketing Service in West Virginia: From One Person.
Need internet marketing in West Virginia? Caleb Schallert here, based in Houston. Websites, SEO, video, ads and automation, all from one person, the same remote-first way I work everywhere I don't have a local office. It starts with an audit and a plan you can question; Search Console data every month shows what moved.
Internet Marketing Service Starts With Your ZIP Code
Whether you're in Charleston or anywhere else in the state, give me your ZIP. I'll show you what results look like for your market.

What Working With Me Looks Like
I’ve never opened an office in the state, and I say so upfront instead of pretending otherwise.
- I check what’s live first, always
- You get a plan before anything moves
- Visible progress by the first few weeks
Month one follows that order every time, no exceptions. Nothing turns into a black box.

The Numbers Behind the Market
As of 2024, West Virginia counts 1,769,979 people (U.S. Census Bureau estimate). I don't round that up or down for anybody.
- 1,769,979 people, 39th by population
- 35,839 employer businesses, 42nd nationally (2023)
- About 20.2 employer businesses per 1,000 people
- Largest city: Charleston, 46,482 people
I'd call that the hardest market to break into (3% of the state's population), since the rivals pile up wherever the searches do.
By population there are 2 metro areas, and each one is its own local search reality:
- Huntington-Ashland: 366,920 people
- Charleston: 202,091 people
Cross-border metros West Virginia businesses also compete in: Washington, DC (6,436,489), Hagerstown, MD (311,295), and Winchester, VA (149,702).
The state runs on Eastern time, 1 hour ahead of Houston's Central time, per 49 CFR Part 71. I build the standing call around it, so it lands at a workable time on both ends.
Industries the Workforce Runs On
The workforce concentrates in these three sectors. I check the BLS numbers on this before I build a plan, every time.
- Health Care and Social Assistance: 134,192 jobs, 2024 (I've seen a well-sourced credentials page outrank a closer competitor's plain listing)
- Retail Trade: 77,986 jobs, 2024 (a calendar with sharp seasonal swings, where stale hours cost a click)
- Accommodation and Food Services: 62,987 jobs, 2024 (where the response time matters as much as the rating itself)
Two businesses on the same street can need different builds. What they sell splits them.
Metro Search vs. Statewide Search
A search reads two ways to me. An internet marketing search, typed into Google, could mean the whole state, or it could mean Huntington-Ashland specifically.
- The one searcher who truly means the whole state is usually someone about to move here
- Voice search skews local harder than typed search does, even inside the state
- A search from Huntington-Ashland already reads local to Google before I touch anything
- Desktop sessions skew toward comparison shopping; phones skew local
I've watched a search go from a statewide comparison to one city name within the same week. I build the page to hold both, since guessing wrong loses half the traffic. One page, two jobs.
What I Would Do First for a West Virginia Business
The sector matters more than the metro here; I build to that first.
- By 2024, Health Care and Social Assistance had grown to 134,192 jobs statewide, and a worried searcher checks credentials before a map, so that's where I'd open the build
- By 2024, Retail Trade had grown to 77,986 jobs statewide, and accurate hours and current inventory move the map pack more than anything else
- By 2024, Accommodation and Food Services had grown to 62,987 jobs statewide, and I'd get a review-response habit running before anything else
The build gets sized to whichever metro the business competes in, Huntington-Ashland included. I size the build to what the data supports here, never a padded plan bigger than the market itself. I size every plan to the metro and the sector together, since a business a mile from its competitor can still need a completely different build once you factor in what it sells and who it's selling to. One plan per business.

Seasons, Timing and the Map Pack
I'd rather name the gap between Huntington-Ashland and Charleston up front than promise the same pace for both. The state's industries don't share a calendar, so I don't build like they do.
- Health Care and Social Assistance, stays close to flat all year, the steadiest of the group
- Retail Trade, follows the calendar every retailer already plans around
- Accommodation and Food Services, tracks the visitor calendar more closely than the weather
I count 35,839 employer businesses here, and they don't all move on the same clock. The calendar decides pace.
Internet Marketing Service in West Virginia: What an Audit Usually Turns Up
None of this is from your site. It is what audits on other sites turned up, set down so you can see what a first look finds.
- 331 legacy URLs worth 1.58 million impressions over 16 months
- Discovered pages: 19 up to 135, on a site of about 230
1.58 Million Impressions of Search History Behind Old URLs
A franchise went through a migration, and its old addresses were left pointing at location homepages or a 404 page. Its top commercial phrase fell from about 280 impressions a month to 26 over three months. Mapping the old addresses gave 331 legacy URLs. They had earned 1.58 million impressions and 29.2K clicks over 16 months. We wrote five rewrite rules at the host and imported 290 rules at the redirect service. A random sample of 24 URLs all matched. Recovery had not been measured yet. A check was set for about two weeks later.
Google Knew About 19 of Roughly 230 Pages
Every location on a children's science-education franchise's WordPress multisite builds a sitemap index of its own. Only the main site's had ever been submitted. Search Console listed 19 discovered pages on a site of about 230. All the location indexes went to Search Console and Bing. We also added the missing sitemap lines to robots.txt. Discovered pages went from 19 to 135. That is discovery, not indexing, and we did not claim otherwise.
This one page is a single entry in the full United States directory, with the country-level numbers alongside it.
The Five Services
An engagement usually pulls from this same set of five. Where your business stands today decides which ones, not a sales pitch.

Quick Answers
Do You Have an Office in West Virginia?
I'm based in Houston, Texas, with no West Virginia storefront to point to. Every client gets the same remote-first process. When a trip is truly warranted, a launch, a shoot, a leadership meeting, I book it. Otherwise the work runs remote, and I don't pretend it's something else.
How Is Working With Someone Outside West Virginia Different From Hiring Locally?
It's mostly a question of tools. A kickoff call and a written plan cover what a desk visit used to. I've flagged a dropping number to a client before they'd even opened that month's report themselves.
What Does Working With Me in West Virginia Include?
Five pieces make up working together: internet marketing service, website designer, video production service, advertising agency, automation company. Which ones apply is an audit question, and I've been wrong guessing it in advance.
